When French publisher Jai Lu decided to release a new edition of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones (Le Trone De Fer) series, they they knew they wanted to give the books a look that differentiated them from past iterations and other fantasy novels. I was brought on to conceptualize and execute this departure, and the result is a series of covers built on 3 consistent components:

Each cover features a new person and place of import to the story, framed within a relevant house or faction sigil. This approach made for a system that could be applied across all 15 volumes currently published, and creates a pleasingly uniform set.

Despite the fact that the annual festival could not be held in person, Shared Medium still wanted to produce a poster to keep the event feeling as normal as possible as they adapted it to a ‘festival-by-mail’. This meant keeping participants and sponsors involved with communication and merchandise, including prints of the festival poster.

Fifty-Nine Parks approached me about contributing to their ongoing series of open edition screen-printed posters which celebrate America’s National Parks. I was assigned to Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison, given a basic layout template, and given free reign to create an image evocative of the park’s landscape. Their simple process has led to a series of invariably excellent prints, so I hope that my contribution lives up to the high standard they have set.

I worked with Del Rey Books to create the cover art for books 1 and 2 of the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy. Set after Return of the Jedi, Alphabet Squadron follows a unique team of 5 New Republic pilots, each flying a different class of starfighter as they struggle to end their war.

In addition to providing cover artwork, I was tasked with creating character art for each of the new pilots introduced in the series. Developing the first visual reference for these new canonical figures was simultaneously exciting and daunting.

It was a real treat to work with Mondo on the limited edition vinyl release of Bear McCreary’s OST for Sony’s God of War.

As a huge fan of this installment of the series, I really enjoyed creating the concept and artwork for the packaging of the album, and it was exciting to see game director Cory Barlog show it off on their launch livestream.

Since I am a huge fan of Sony’s first-party Playstation titles, it has been a pleasure to work with Sony Interactive Entertainment on a variety of projects.

These pop culture posters utilize a limited color palette and grid structure to depict a variety of objects representing themes, moments, or characters from the media they are inspired by. Each panel may be relatively insignificant on its own, but when they are presented together they begin to tell a larger story.

My goal with these designs is to create something which lends itself to close inspection and rewards fans with new discoveries on subsequent views.

Selected by show creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson as the official promotional art for the show’s fourth season, this image was featured in web and print ads, in streaming applications, and on an interactive billboard display in Times Square, NYC.

This series was an exercise in design with limitations. I set out to illustrate groups of well known characters from popular culture but with some parameters around shape, simplicity, and color. I tend to enjoy working within systems like this which require creative problem solving. It was a challenge, but I had fun making sure each character is recognizable while sticking within the established guidelines.

And one of the best things about working within a system is finding those little places where you can purposely break from it to unique effect.
